Photography and videography is not a job for Angela. It feeds her soul and allows her to live her true purpose. She chooses work she finds emotionally fulfilling and that resonates with her. This way she becomes invested in her projects in a way that delights her clients.
Angela has a breadth of skill that is difficult to match. A lifelong learner, she is always researching new techniques, trying new ideas and improving her images. Her artistry has seen her receive NZIPP IRIS awards every year since 2016 – a total of 12 – and she is a category finalist in the Illustrative Category of the 2020 awards. Previous category awards include Commercial Photography, Travel and Wildlife & Wild Places.
The technical challenges of evocative photography are what make Angela stand out. She particularly enjoys lighting, working with the interplay of light and shadow, especially on faces. Her sympathetic treatment of female subjects and the interpersonal relationships she develops with her clients brings out their personalities and natural beauty.
High end commercial work is another passion and Angela is adept at using the benefit of her experience to evoke positive feelings in those who view her images, making them ideal for a range of marketing purposes.
From Angela:
I’m Angela Jane and I am a Dunedin commercial & portrait photographer. I’m based in the very picturesque town of Dunedin, New Zealand. I have over 25 years experience in many genres. I am confident in shooting portraiture in a domestic and a commercial capacity.
Photography has been my life for as long as I can remember.
Capturing families and fleeting moments of love, joy and laughter have always inspired me. At Weddings, I still get choked up during vows and teary-eyed during speeches.
I am so grateful for this amazing career and the people I get to meet along the way.
The first thing that photography did all those years ago was give me a hobby. Photography has given me something to do and learn about for many years. It must add up to many thousands of hours of enjoyment because Twenty years on I am still learning.
Photography also gives me creative fulfilment. It helps me express myself artistically, and that’s a wonderful thing. Being a Dunedin commercial & portrait photographer and having creativity is a major part of my life.
My camera allegiance is to Nikon but I won’t hold anything against Canon users😉. I love my Profoto B1x location lighting kit. It assists in achieving my results whether in an indoor or outdoor environment. I really enjoy the challenges that new jobs bring.
I have a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Political Studies and Human Resource Management and can make a mean Apricot Jam!
My skill sets cover:
Architectural photography
No matter if you are an interior designer, architect, business owner or building materials supplier you want your expertise highlighted. You want the colours of the room, the angles of the structure or the texture of your stones to impress your client.
Professional photography and lighting can truly make all the difference. Lighting can affect colour, depth perception and more. We’ve all heard of celebrities demanding particular lighting to make them look better. Bright lighting can highlight certain features and deliberate shadows can hide flaws. This is true of architecture and design as well. Lighting happens to be Angela Jane’s personal passion – how light plays with a space, both interior and exterior. Her goal is to maintain the integrity of the colours and lighting as the architect and interior designer intended. It’s important to evaluate the space at different times of the day to determine how the normal light (natural or otherwise) plays on the space. The final product has to look completely natural, as if you’re standing right there.
Product photography
Consumers seek time-saving shortcuts all the time, and their attention naturally gravitates to the quickest way to gather information: images.
Product images not only testify to the quality of your product, but also serve as windows into your ecommerce store, creating 2 very important things:
- Transparency
- Trust
Website & social media business content photography
Photos catch the eye and get people clicking. Your website is often the first impression that people have of your business so first impressions mean a lot. Clean, professional photography makes your online presence appealing and welcoming to visitors. Having a great user experience like that increases the incentive to stick around and continue engaging with you.
Business branding
Show your viewer who you are, what your business is, and why they should choose you.
This is when working with a professional photographer becomes particularly beneficial because you get to create your own brand of photography.
Perhaps you want vibrant, crisp photos to flaunt your catering company’s flavourful creations. Maybe you need clean, neutral shots that let your team shine. Or perhaps solid, detail-centric and landscape shots to showcase your roofing company.
Personal & corporate branding
Personal branding is not only your business logo or the font you’ve chosen.
Essentially, everything we do and say has an impact on how others ‘see’ us. A personal brand is a reflection of our character, skills, talents and passions in life and how they are perceived by those around us.
The art of building a strong personal brand draws on the concepts of authenticity, excellence, and uniqueness. It celebrates and enhances the aspects of our image that make us who we want to be.
